I definitely had to watch this video a few times to fully understand exactly what Ms.Tomi Lahren had to say. A lot of the things threw me for a loop, but I admire her courage… honestly. She is a very opinionated figure and I appreciate that she can openly stand for what she believes is right. Now about that; she continually opposes to the idea that “black lives matter more” which is how most of the #AllLivesMatter population views the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s almost needless to mention that the platform of the Black Lives Matter protests is not set on dividing the races or holding one superior to the other. It’s exactly the opposite of that. Lahren chooses to point out that the Black Panthers promoted violence and spread hate, while neglecting to mention that the formation (ha) of these kinds of groups were in retaliation to ones like the KKK. For the first time in African American history, black people stood up for themselves, almost as violently as their white counterparts, but why does one group get more scrutiny than the other? Perhaps it’s because people like Tomi Lahren would prefer us not to rip off the “historical band aid” by emphasizing our greatness, yet we are expected to ignore the resurfacing of history when our young men and women are killed every day in the same way they were 50 years ago. The only thing that “[perpetuates] the great battle of the races” are the continued injustices black people face every day at the workplace, walking home, driving home, or doing anything white people would rather do without our presence. This is not an issue of Beyonce wearing a Black Panther themed leotard and performing with afro centric backup dancers at the SuperBowl. The issue is deep rooted in the mentalities of people like this reporter who feel as though famous black people are a part of the “privileged Hollywood entertainment types”. Beyonce could essentially become the female Bill Gates, but she will NEVER be more privileged than Tomi Lahren, a blonde haired, blue eyed white woman who can speak her mind and keep her life.
