Meet Amiyah King: The woman behind "Common Pains"
I am an 18 year old broadcast journalism major and political science minor at Howard University. Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, coming the Mecca to pursue my journalism career was the best option for me. I served for my high school yearbook committee for 4 years, before receiving a position as a contributing writer and co editing manager for Howard's FreshU page- a for freshmen, by freshmen online publication. Now, I am looking to start something new on my own. Without any restrictions, I wanted to voice my opinion on controversial issues in the black community which lead to me creating the blog, Common Pains. My goal here is to deliver news that is relevant and relatable from a familiar point of view. I am willing to push the limits and say exactly what I feel. In the future I hope to become a news broadcaster, where I can deliver news to a larger audience and have more ethical stance, which contributes to more influence. The issues in mass communication have corrupted the media and taken away from the sole purpose of broadcast. I hope to change that. As an African American woman in America, I am proud to represent the silent majority.
